END HUNGER, ACHIEVE FOOD SECURITY AND IMPROVED NUTRITION, AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
The goal is for all people to have access to sufficient safe, nutritious food, particularly the poor and those in vulnerable situations.
Population growth, urbanization, dietary shifts, pressure on ecosystems and climate change are just some of the factors that will contribute to greater uncertainty about food and nutrition security in the future. Food and nutrition security is also increasingly considered to be a global public good that needs to be supported for the sake of the security and stability of the global population.
WUR aims to identify options, opportunities and strategies for improving nutrition and sustainable food systems
An estimated 805 million people – 12 per cent of the global population – still suffer from chronic hunger while two billion face malnutrition due to insufficient or unbalanced diets. Wageningen University & Research (WUR) has a specific programme focusing on innovative research that can enhance global food and nutrition security. Our aim is to identify options, opportunities and strategies for improving nutrition and strengthening sustainable global and local food systems by developing science-based solutions, creating partnerships and delivering change.
